Another use
We found this device to be wonderful. With the MP3 starter kit, we can put digital photos on the Juice Box. Then our non-verbal daughter who has autism, can scroll through the images and communicate her wants to us. We found the Juice Box durable enough to be transported to and from school for use there as well.
I am disappointed it has been discontinued as it has been invaluable for us.

Great little number for traveling
This behemoth takes 3 AA batteries, is roughly the size of an 80's Cassette Walkman, and with the MP3/Jpg kit (sold separately), you can listen to up to 512MB (SD card sold separately)of 128kbps MP3's or watch a bunch of jpegs. All of these parts are cheaply and readily available, and visually, it looks like a bad toy that no one would ever steal from your car or backpack. It also has a built in speaker, so you can share your Barry Manilow anthology. This contraption also survived a countertop height fall. Can an ipod do that??

Pretty cool, but it's not worth the price some of us paid :/
Well, the JuiceBox itself is awesome for a kid's toy, however it's not what I was expecting.
For 80 bucks or so, I'd at least expect something more than just the hardware. At least a free chip?
Nah.
I got this for Christmas in 2004, I think. I feel bad that my parents had to pay that much for something I rarely even use. :/
I wanted it mainly because it played mp3's and I couldn't find a cheap mp3 player (stupid me, I never really looked). I used it as an mp3 player for a while, but not so much because it sucks up battery life within... hmm, 4 hours, I believe.
I didn't buy any of the JuiceWare cartridges because none of them appealed to me (I'm a 15 year old girl and I do not watch Courage the Cowardly Dog and am not particularly interested in WWE or BMX).
That was one mistake Matell made when they were producing the JuiceBox, I think. There's not that many JuiceWare titles and a few shows aren't too popular.
The second mistake was trying to compete with VideoNow.
I feel like such an idiot for chosing the JuiceBox over the VideoNow. VideoNow has more titles AND you can make your own videos and put them on there. Stupid me again, thougt that you could do that with the JB too. Eh...
I had some fun with it though, which is why I gave it 3 stars. But the reason I had fun with it is probably not the same reasons most kids would have fun with it.
During the summer was when I used it the most. I downloaded episodes of diggnation (a tech podcast) and listened to them late at night when my sister was on the computer. During the summer I also searched for hacks for it to play video. Apparently there's quite a few people wanting to find out the same thing. I found the JuiceBox hacking forum and every now and then I browse through it.
Last I checked they have no hacks to get video on it yet, though. I'm starting to ramble about stuff you woudn't care about.
So yeah, main points:
*JuiceBox is an OKAY toy
*There are not many JuiceWare titles
*The only good hack is that it can be an ebook reader, as someone said previously.

What to do with your Juice box media player
I Just got the whole kit for $[...]. It came with a 32 mg sd card too. I did a search online, and found out you can make the thing into an e-book reader. Imagin scaning flash cards and puting them on your kids juice box! also stories or other stuff. there is a program that takes text file and makes it into jpg files. Do a search for jpegbook. They can learn thier spelling or math while they are playing lol. The mp3's are what we bought it for, and now I find I can use it as a reader. THis is WAY WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!
